The Face of Newark Abroad

TravelingMad attended the 47th annual African American Heritage Day Parade in Newark, New Jersey. There were marching bands, floats, balloons, and street vendors. This important parade for Newark always draws a huge crowd. I had a blast and was glad to celebrate the festivities of my hometown!

Let’s Get Social!

Living in Florida as a child you don’t notice the southern drawl or phrases unique to the south. As an adult, I’ve recently spent a significant amount of time in Florida and have repeatedly been asked, “Why you talk so proper?” Apparently compared to everyone here I do speak properly, lol.

I came to Florida to spend time with family and my Country Cousins keep me laughing, even when they are not telling jokes! I love them dearly but had to share some of their and other country folks’ sayings, words and phrases. If you said these things anywhere else but the south, no one would understand you, and from a Yankee like myself, you would get a prompt, “Excuse me?”

  • What it is?
  • I got ribs on my pants!
  • You don’t weigh but a buck 05 wet.
  • I like facet water.
  • What that book is you readin?
  • My doctor called the emergency wagon.
  • Come to church lookin real fine.
  • Who that is?
  • I cain’t talk loud cuz I’m in the li-berry!
  • He finna go hog wild!

MY TOP AMERICAN DESTINATION!! I have always wanted to go to Montana to mine for Sapphires! I’m a September baby and sapphire is my birthstone. I’m ready to get dirty, picking, sifting and then polishing! Can’t wait to mine a few pretty gems! It’s my dream to mine some gems and turn them into beautiful jewelry. When I wear them and people ask, I can tell them that I mined the jewels myself, a labor of love 🙂

Has anyone ever done any mining? Or would anyone like to? I would love a buddy!

MUSH!

MUSH!

I really have to go mushing in Alaska! This state has been on my list for as long as I can remember. Must go mushing there before I die!

There are some really cool places to visit there (literally), with an endless list of entertainment and adventure! I might even be brave and go ice fishing! (maybe) Alaska, I promise to see you soon!

Has anyone been to Alaska that would like to share some tips for me??

After meeting so many people from LA and them always telling me how wonderful it is, I need to check it out for myself. Being a proud Jersey Girl, I’m told that I probably wouldn’t like to live there, but I’m willing to give the west coast life a try for a week or so 😉

LA Skyline

I wonder if LA will give me a run for my money! Stay tuned. I hope to find out later this year!

I know it’s close to Mardi Gras and everyone is talking about New Orleans. However, this city has been on my travel to-do list for years! The flavor and wealth of New Orleans is calling to me! Luckily I’ve made a few friends that are natives of the city and I can’t wait to crash at their place and have them show me all the local hang outs and hot spots!

What do you think of the city?
